PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence fire officials say eight children and five adults managed to escape unharmed as their triple-decker home went up in flames.

Firefighters were called to Daboll Street shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday.

Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Desmarais told WPRI-TV (https://bit.ly/1h3jq2k ) that one firefighter who battled the blaze was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with a possible broken foot.

Desmarais says it appears the fire began on the first floor, but the point of origin and cause remain under investigation.

Nicola Sarlo says she grabbed her kids and got them out of the house as soon as possible after she realized the house was on fire. She also made sure her mother and brother were safe.

The American Red Cross is offering displaced residents temporary shelter and help with other needs.
