HONOLULU (AP) - Big Island fire rescue personnel say a 23-year-old man died after falling while trying to climb down a cliff.

Emergency responders took a call on the incident at 11:24 a.m. Sunday.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://bit.ly/1fZ60RU) reports the man fell about 80 feet onto a rocky beach in Pepeekeo. He was trying to descend to the beach with friends.

Paramedics found the man with severe traumatic injuries and in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man and transported him to Hilo Medical Center.

He died at the hospital.
