SOCHI, Russia (AP) - Patrick Chan is relieved after winning the team silver medal with Canada at the Olympics, and thinks that will help him in the individual event.

Chan said Monday that after not winning a medal in Vancouver four years ago, it “really is cool to get a medal in my hands today.”

He performed only the short program of the team event. He will do that routine again Thursday, followed by the free skate Friday.

The three-time world champion says the team silver has “relieved a lot of pressure off myself, pressure I put on myself.” He adds that he’s “feeling a lot more light-hearted” going into the short program of the individual competition.
