ATLANTA (AP) - Leaders of Atlanta’s public transportation system say they’re making preparations to deal with snow, ice and frigid temperatures.

In a statement, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transportation Authority officials said bus and rail service would operate on normal schedule Tuesday and the agency would activate its 24-hour Emergency Operations Center to help address problems associated with winter weather.

The agency is stocking up on salt and sand to treat rail stations with, and is making lodging plans for essential employees who may have to stay overnight. Officials say they’re also increasing bandwidth on MARTA’s website to accommodate anticipated weather-related traffic.

MARTA officials say they’ll adjust the schedules as needed, depending on weather and traffic conditions.

Passengers are asked to check for the latest bus and rail information online.
