BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) - A car collided with a fire truck Monday night near Bremerton.

The Washington State Patrol says the car crossed the centerline and struck the fire truck, even though the fire truck driver tried to avoid the crash by going into a ditch.

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue says the driver of the car had to be extricated by other firefighters. The 48-year-old Bremerton man was taken to Harrison Medical Center with serious injuries.

No firefighters were injured and they were able to drive the fire engine away. They were on their way back to the station at the time of the crash and were not running with lights or siren.
