WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) - Officials in Glacier National Park are reminding visitors to be cautious around the park’s lakes after park rangers received a report that two people fell into Lake McDonald over the weekend while trying to cross-country ski across it.

The people were able to rescue themselves from the icy water, but lost much of their equipment.

Park Superintendent Jeff Mow says that while recent freezing temperatures have led to more ice on Lake McDonald, the lake is not completely frozen over. Conditions vary from open water, to slush to ice that may not be thick enough to support a person.
