BLUE GRASS, Iowa (AP) - Firefighters from several departments were fighting a fire at an eastern Iowa scrap metal company, and smoke billowing from the site prompted the evacuation of a nearby school.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1iYjugF ) the Tuesday morning fire at Rich Metals Co. in Blue Grass drew firefighters from Blue Grass, Buffalo, Durant and Walcott.

The company is a scrap metal processor and recycler.

Davenport Community School District spokeswoman Dawn Saul says smoke from the fire forced the evacuation of Blue Grass Elementary School as a precaution. Children were taken to a nearby church.

Blue Grass is about 8 miles west of Davenport.
