FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Residents are complaining after Fort Collins charged homeowners for removing snow from more than 100 stretches of sidewalk and failed to plow some of its own sidewalks within the 24-hour period required by law.

Resident Steve Schiola says he frustrated by the city’s slow response in recent years to snowy public sidewalks.

The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports (https://tinyurl.com/nf99l4r ) snow removal crews say they clear sidewalks as soon as possible following a storm. The goal is to get the work done within 24 hours of accumulation, but they say that can be difficult with the entire city to cover.

The city charges property owns an average of $110 if its crews have to clear private sidewalks following a snow storm.
