PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The chorus at Portland’s Deering High School has been chosen to sing backup at an upcoming concert by Foreigner, the soft rock band that reached the height of its popularity in the 1980s when their parents were teenagers.

The 26-member chorus will sing backup on the 1984 power ballad “I Want to Know What Love Is,” when the current incarnation of Foreigner plays a sold out show at the State Theatre next Tuesday. The song reached No. 1 in both the U.S. and British charts.

None of the members of the chorus was even born when the song was a hit, and some admit not knowing much about the band. Their parents sure are thrilled though.

Sixteen-year-old junior Olivia Ryan says Foreigner is “like this big deal” in her home.
