AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A former police captain declared innocent after serving 15 years in prison for his ex-wife’s slaying in 1997 in northeast Ohio has sued his former colleagues.

Former Akron police Capt. Douglas Prade filed suit last month in federal court against more than two dozen defendants, including current and former police officers, claiming he was framed.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

Prade was freed last year by a judge’s decision declaring him innocent. The ruling was based on new DNA tests that excluded Prade as the source of a bite mark on the victim’s clothing.

Police Chief James Nice and a former chief detective told the Akron Beacon Journal (bit.ly/1ntJKAl) the frame-up allegations are outrageous and ridiculous.

A message seeking city comment was left at the mayor’s office Wednesday.
