PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island health officials say a surgeon whose license was suspended for drug use has sought treatment and may again practice medicine.

The state Department of Health said Tuesday that health officials have lifted the suspension of Dr. Michael Coburn’s license. Coburn’s license was suspended a year ago after health officials say he acknowledged injecting himself with pain medications.

Coburn was placed on medical leave of absence at Kent Hospital and completed substance abuse treatment at a facility in Florida. He has agreed to professional monitoring and to a reprimand.

Coburn could not be reached Tuesday.
