On his way to Mexico, President Obama will sign an executive order Wednesday to speed up the import-export business for American companies.

Mr. Obama, who is on his way to a summit of North American leaders, will sign an order to cut the processing and approval times for small businesses that export U.S. goods and services by completing the International Trade Data System by December 2016. The ITDS will allow companies to transmit through a “single window” data required by the federal government to import or export cargo.

Once fully implemented, the White House said, the ITDS will “dramatically reduce the time and expense for businesses to move the more than 50 million containers and $3.8 trillion worth of goods that cross our borders each year.”
