GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Police say a possible suspect in the January shooting death of a 20-year-old Michigan State University student has been arrested in Grand Rapids.

East Lansing police say the man was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday as a parole absconder from the Michigan Department of Corrections. Authorities say officers staked out a home earlier in the day and later surrounded it, prompting a brief standoff before he surrendered.

Police say he’s being investigated in connection with the Jan. 31 fatal shooting of Dominique Nolff of Middleville.

Nolff was shot multiple times at Cedar Village apartment complex in East Lansing and died at a hospital. His 20-year-old roommate from Grand Haven also was shot. He was treated at the hospital and released.

Police have said the shooting doesn’t appear to be random.
