ALLENDALE, Mich. (AP) - Officials at Grand Valley State University say racist remarks were found written on the door of a black student’s dorm room.

Dean of Students Bart Merkle tells The Grand Rapids Press (https://bit.ly/1bKXxTx ) a drawing of a person being hanged also was found Sunday night or early Monday on a whiteboard attached to the door of the room at the Copeland Living Center in Allendale.

Merkle says campus police and university housing staff are looking to find out who wrote on the board. No suspect information was available.

The school says a disparaging remark about Black History Month also was written on the board. Merkle says it “clearly was a very hateful and intimidating act.”

The school’s Allendale campus is located about 15 miles west of Grand Rapids.
