LUCEDALS, Miss. (AP) - The George County Board of Supervisors has approved a $1 million contract with the Pat Harrison Waterway District and Jackson-based Pickering Engineering for the next phase of work on the Southeast Mississippi Regional Water Supply Project.
The project is more commonly known as Lake George.
The Mississippi Press reports (https://bit.ly/1fIcRf3 ) that the 3,000-acre reservoir with a $50 million price tag is intended to reinforce the water supply to Jackson County industries especially during droughts. It also will be a source of drinkable water to the area for decades and it will provide recreational opportunities.
