DENMARK, S.C. (AP) - The legacy of a blues musician is being recognized once again at a festival in the town of Denmark.

The fifth annual Julius Daniels Memorial Blues Festival is slated for this weekend at the Dane Theater in Denmark.

Daniels was born in Denmark around 1901 and lived in Charlotte, N.C. He was one of the first black artists to record in the southeastern United States.

The festival runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and features Anthony Charles and The Blue Dolphins as well as The Hartness and Charles Project, featuring Lawrence “Luckyman” Beall on upright bass. The event is sponsored by the Historic Society of Bamberg County and is a fundraiser to establish a Bamberg County museum.

Tickets may be reserved online at info@bambergcountychamber.org or by phone at 803-245-4427.
