STANHOPE, Iowa (AP) - The Department of Natural Resources has issued a boil advisory for the small central Iowa city of Stanhope.

The DNR issued the advisory Friday after a water main break in the Hamilton County city of 400 people. Such breaks can cause the water system to lose pressure as repairs are made and allow bacteria to enter the water.

The advisory will remain in place until two sets of samples show the water is free of bacteria.

Residents should boil water for one minute and let it cool before using it to drink, make ice, brush teeth or prepare food. Tap water can be used for bathing.
