LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A fund raising effort at Lafayette High School has brought in more than $9,000 to help the family of four people killed in a traffic accident.

The fatal crash a week ago involved a sport utility vehicle and a Lafayette High School bus carrying the school’s baseball team. KLFY-TV reports (https://bit.ly/OntLJO) that four people were killed in the SUV: LaDonna Cheatham; her son, Markus; her daughter, Destiny; and her nephew, DeWayne Escort.

The initial goal was to raise $2,000, but before noon Friday, $9,000 had already rolled in to help with funeral expenses for the four who were killed.

The money came from people all over the area, students, teachers, faculty and others who expressed sympathy. Officials say the fundraising will continue Monday.
