NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A DuPage County grand jury has indicted a 21-year-old man accused of strangling his roommate hours after moving into the man’s suburban Chicago townhome.
The Naperville Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1f8Yf7l ) Grant Van Muren was indicted this week on charges of murder, arson, robbery and concealment of a homicide. He is being held on $2 million bond.
Prosecutors say Muren killed 54-year-old Charles Clark in the Naperville home they’d shared for less than a day. Clark’s girlfriend discovered his body on Jan. 22, and Muren was arrested two days later.
Authorities say the two met after Muren answered Clark’s Craigslist posting for a roommate. They say Muren strangled Clark, then burned their lease agreement and turned on the oven and stove before leaving.
Muren is scheduled to appear in court March 3.
