CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The University of Virginia is planning to offer master’s degree programs in data science and European studies.

Officials say the university’s Board of Visitors approved the degree programs on Friday.

The data science program through the school’s recently established Data Science Institute will focus on collecting and analyzing massive stores of data. President A. Sullivan says nearly 90 applicants are already lined up for the program.

The European studies program will focus on Europe as a unit and its relationship with the rest of the world. It would combine coursework in language, history, culture and politics.

The degree programs must be approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
