PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A former veteran narcotics officer on the Philadelphia police force has acknowledged scheming to rob a drug dealer while on duty.

Jeffrey Walker pleaded guilty Monday to attempted robbery and carrying a gun during a crime of violence.

Authorities say he unknowingly worked with a government informant to plant drugs in a suspected dealer’s car outside a west Philadelphia bar in May 2013.

When police detained the suspect during a traffic stop that evening, Walker took the key to the suspect’s house. He was arrested leaving the home with $15,000; the informant had five pounds of marijuana.

Local judges later threw out dozens of convictions that had been based on Walker’s testimony.

Court documents indicate Walker is cooperating with authorities in a larger investigation. Sentencing is set for May 21.
