ST. LOUIS (AP) - Three people are safe after escaping a burning St. Louis home, and authorities say smoke detectors are a big reason why.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1o0pXZt ) reports that the fire broke out Sunday in a three-story home. Smoke alarms alerted three adults who escaped uninjured before firefighters arrived.

The fire caused moderate damage. The cause has not been determined but residents told firefighters that the room where the fire began had no functioning electrical outlets and they were using extension cords.
