BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A record breaking scoring performance by a Centenary College Gent and a 30-point effort in a winning effort for a Nicholls State Colonel earned their respective school athletes the weekly basketball Player of the Week honors from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Jonathan Blount averaged 44.5 points in two games for the Gents and set a school record of 53 points. On the women’s side, Emani White of Nicholls State scored 33 points in the school’s win over McNeese.

Blount, a Shreveport native, shot 58.7 percent from the floor on the week and connected on 40 percent from behind the arc.

White leads the Southland in scoring with 19.2 points per game.
