ST. LOUIS (AP) - Missouri education officials are headed to St. Louis for a public hearing on the state’s turnaround plan for failing school districts.

The 90-minute hearing is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the JC Penney Auditorium on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus. The session comes one week after the State Board of Education voted to impose immediate financial oversight over the unaccredited Normandy School District in St. Louis County.

The state’s proposed plan for unaccredited districts seeks earlier interventions and would provide greater state involvement as a district’s performance worsens.

Public comments on the plan can also be submitted online at www.dese.mo.gov/unaccredited-districts . A similar session was held Monday night in Kansas City.
