MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A south Alabama woman has pleaded guilty to trying to defraud BP out of money in a settlement account that was established after an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Brandy Strong pleaded guilty to attempted fraud on Tuesday morning before her trial could be presented to a jury. WKRG-TV (https://bit.ly/1fpzycS ) reports Strong admitted to filing fraudulent documents to try getting money from the oil company after the spill.

The state dropped a charge of conspiracy against Strong, and she has been sentenced to a year of probation.
