VALDEZ, Alaska (AP) - The Coast Guard says the crews of two fishing boats rescued three men Wednesday night from the water near Valdez (Val-DEEZ), Alaska, after the trio’s 36-foot landing craft sank.
First to respond to the call for help was the crew of the 36-foot fishing vessel Miss Jana, who rescued the three men. Then the Miss Jana reported engine trouble and transferred the men to the nearby 50-foot fishing vessel Equinox. The Equinox also took the Miss Jana in tow.
As that marine convoy headed toward Valdez, the Equinox was met by a Coast Guard boat, which took the three rescued men the rest of the way to Valdez to be checked by medics.
The Coast Guard says the Belltech 5 landing craft reportedly sank in 1,200 feet of water. No pollution has been reported.
The agency praised the assistance of the two fishing boat crews.
