PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - Jefferson County authorities say 183 animals - including 121 dogs - have been taken from an alleged puppy mill.
The sheriff’s office says in a news release that officers serving a search warrant Thursday found the animals in what they called “deplorable living conditions” that included animal waste and a lack of food and water.
The sheriff’s office called The Humane Society of the United States, Central Arkansas Rescue Efforts for Animals, The Humane Society of Saline County, Out of the Woods, RedRover and Sallis Ranch Large Animal Rescue, Inc. to help take the animals.
In addition to the dogs, 11 exotic birds, 19 chickens, 20 horses and multiple cats, rabbits and turtles were found and taken from the property.
No charges or arrests were immediately announced.
