DETROIT (AP) - Three people have died after a car they were riding in crashed with a semitrailer on Detroit’s west side.

Detroit Police Department spokesman Rodney Johnson said it appears the car was traveling east on Friday morning when it struck the semi heading north on the Southfield Freeway service drive. He didn’t know ages or genders of those who died at the scene.

Police say the semi driver didn’t appear to be injured.

The intersection and surrounding area was expected to remain closed for several hours.

The Detroit News reports the semi was on its side and the victims needed to be cut from the car.
