DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say road conditions may have contributed to a vehicle collision in Des Moines that killed one person.

Police say the crash was reported at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 5 on the city’s south side. A pickup truck was traveling westbound when it began sliding sideways and crossed the median. It then struck another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle, 45-year-old Sean Patrick Hammer, of Norwalk, was pronounced dead on the scene. The pickup driver, 40-year-old Khamlei Somsavath, of Des Moines, was brought in for questioning.

Authorities say road conditions may have been a factor in the collision. Snow began falling in the area shortly after midnight, and the National Weather Service expects several inches of snow by early Wednesday.

The case remains under investigation.
