ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Officials in the Asheville school system are asking parents to decide when their children should make up classroom days lost to recent winter weather.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (https://avlne.ws/1lz1Vcc) students have missed five days so far, and the school system wants to know what parents prefer for making up the days.

The school system will contact parents by phone on Wednesday and offer four choices: Saturday school, Memorial Day, extending the school year beyond the June 12 end date, or use one or more days from spring break, scheduled for April 14-18.

Schools spokesman Charlie Glazener said the automated calls will go out between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to some 9,000 phones.

Administrators will use the results, which will be ready within hours, to determine how to proceed.
