BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) - The primary election ballot will include an extra question for voters in Beatrice: Shall the local sales tax be raised for various road projects?

The City Council voted on Monday to put the issue on the May 13 ballot.

City administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says 14 projects totaling $8.3 million are being considered for funding by the extra tax revenue.

The measure would raise the local tax rate to 2 percent from 1.5 percent, taking the total to 7.5 percent in Beatrice. The increase would begin in 2015 and run for 10 years. It is expected to raise about $666,000 a year.
