DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Public Schools has appointed former school board member Carol Banks as the district’s first-ever ombudsperson.

The district also is announcing an enhanced “Customer Service System Guarantee” aimed at helping parents, students, staff, alumni and the community find quick resolution to questions and concerns.

Customer service specialists will check into concerns to find answers or direct the questions to principals, an assistant superintendent or Banks’ office.

A commitment to better customer service is part of the district’s five-year strategic plan.

School-based clerical and administrative staff received training in August during a professional development program. The new initiative is expected to be expanded to staff at all schools and in the district’s central office.
