PELHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a student struck and killed by a pickup truck outside Birmingham was part of a group of Montgomery high school students on a field trip to northern Alabama.

Police say two pedestrians were struck by the truck around 6:06 p.m. Tuesday in Pelham.

Montgomery Public Schools spokesman Tom Salter said the two Robert E. Lee High School students were hit as they ran across the road. Shelby County Coroner Diana Steele New tells Al.com that 16-year-old Alexander Reid Cunningham Bridgman was killed.

Salter said their school bus had stopped in Pelham on its way back from a field trip to Huntsville.

Salter tells The Montgomery Advertiser that the injured student, whose name wasn’t released, has been released from the hospital.
