OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - EMSA has responded to eight injury crashes as a result of icy roads by mid-morning Thursday.

EMSA spokeswoman Lara O’Leary says the agency has also responded to two incidents of people slipping and falling outside, one incident of cold exposure and one report of a ceiling collapse.

Residents of the Oklahoma City metro area woke up to a few inches of snow on the ground Thursday morning. A wind child advisory and winter weather advisory is in effect for many areas. Many schools have been cancelled. Paramedics are urging parents to make sure children playing outside are dressed warmly. Senior citizens should also be checked on to make sure they are inside warm homes.
