COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina House is not meeting in chambers next week, but some legislative meetings will continue.

While the House is on furlough, Ways and Means subcommittees will still hold budget hearings. The full committee is expected to debate its 2014-15 budget proposal later this month. Floor debate in the House is set for next month.

Greg Foster, spokesman for House Speaker Bobby Harrell, says the House won’t be behind in its work, even with last week’s canceled session.

Neither the House nor Senate met last week due to wintry weather.

The House also expects to take off the weeks before and after Easter.

Taxpayers save roughly $60,000 each week the House is out since members aren’t collecting mileage reimbursements or daily per diems.
