BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man will be sentenced next month after being convicted in the stabbing death of his estranged wife during a home invasion that also injured the woman’s boyfriend.

The Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1jk4Tzp ) reports a St. Clair County judge convicted 24-year-old John Cole of Belleville of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. He was convicted Thursday.

Authorities say LeNae Cole was stabbed 33 times during the July 2012 attack in her Belleville apartment. Her boyfriend was also stabbed but survived.

LaNae Cole had filed for divorce a month before the killing and had a protection order against John Cole.

John Cole’s cousin Garfield Fenton was convicted of murder and attempted murder last year in the attack and is serving a 30-year sentence.
