ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A Black History Month exhibit highlighting famous abolitionists and authors is opening at the New York state Capitol.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the exhibit called “The Transformative Power of the Narrative,” will open Friday in the War Room on the Capitol’s second floor.

The exhibit celebrates the work of five storytellers: abolitionists Sojourner Truth and Frederick Douglass; authors Toni Morrison and Alex Haley; and Solomon Northrup, who wrote “Twelve Years a Slave” after being kidnapped and forced into slavery.

The exhibit will feature biographies and artifacts from the New York State Library.
