SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A group of commuters and others is asking the Utah Transit Authority to run its commuter train line on Sundays.

Julianne Waters on Wednesday told KSL-TV (https://bit.ly/NbhjMW) that she started an online petition for the Sunday train service because she wanted to help clean up the smoggy air blanketing Salt Lake City.

Waters says Sunday FrontRunner trains would help travelers coming and going from the airport. She contends they would also help restaurants and other businesses by bringing more people out on the weekends.

The petition had over 1,000 electronic signatures Wednesday.

The FrontRunner trains currently run Monday through Saturday.

UTA said in a statement that Sunday service isn’t in the budget right now, but added that it invites more comments on ways it can improve service.
