AMES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State has hired former Louisiana Tech assistant Stan Eggen as its defensive ends coach.

Eggen, who spent the past five seasons working with the Bulldogs defensive line, fills a vacancy left when Cyclones assistant Curtis Bray died last month.

Eggen and Cyclones head coach Paul Rhoads have known each other for 25 years. Rhoads says Eggen is an “exceptional” teacher who should help Iowa State recruit in metro Dallas-Fort Worth.

Eggen was the defensive line coach at Texas A&M; prior to his stint at Louisiana Tech. Eggen has also worked at Alabama, TCU and New Mexico among other schools in a career spanning over 30 years.

Eggen grew up in Minnesota and graduated with a master’s degree from North Dakota in 1981.
