LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A bill that would require Nebraska public schools to disclose superintendent pay, benefits and other contract provisions has sailed through a final vote in the Legislature.

Lawmakers passed the measure on Friday with a 43-0 vote.

The bill would require districts to publish school district contracts and contract amendments. They could meet that requirement by posting the contracts online. Contracts would also be filed with the Nebraska Department of Education.

Sen. Jim Scheer of Norfolk says he introduced the bill to ensure that the public and school board members realize the costs they incur with superintendents. Superintendent pay is a public record, but bill supporters say it’s not always easy to learn about fringe benefits in the employment contracts.
