WISNER, La. (AP) - Investigators say a woman found dead in a burning mobile home in Wisner likely committed suicide and that the fire was started by a cigarette.

A news release from the Louisiana Fire Marshal’s office says it investigated the fire Friday after the body of 64-year-old woman was found slumped over a burning bed.

Fire Marshal investigators and Franklin Parish authorities learned that the woman suffered from early stages of Alzheimer’s and there was a large amount of prescription medication throughout the residence.

Investigators discovered a handwritten note that made reference to committing suicide, but will await autopsy results to conclusively determine the cause and manner of death.

Investigators believe the cigarette started the fire when the woman lost consciousness on the bed.
