SOCHI, Russia (AP) - Women’s hockey in the Winter Olympics is largely considered a two-country race between Canada and the United States. But that doesn’t mean they’re taking it easy on the other countries.

AP photographer Matt Slocum shows one tiny battle in the wider journey toward a Sochi Games medal: Nina Tikkinen of Finland and American Anne Schleper of St. Cloud, Minn., battling for control of the puck against the glass in their Saturday opener.
