MANSFIELD, La. (AP) - The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a third deadly fire in as many days in north Louisiana.

Mansfield firefighters responded to a home on La. Hwy 84 just after noon Saturday. Upon arrival, they found the single-family home venting heavy smoke and flames.

KTBS-TV (https://bit.ly/1giZS56 ) reports two residents were outside the home; a third was still inside.

After the fire was brought under control, firefighters located the body of 52-year-old Willie Wesley Walton in a living area near the kitchen.

Investigators learned a passing motorist attempted a rescue before their arrival, but was unsuccessful.

Investigators have determined that the fire started on the gas cooktop in the kitchen.

There were no working smoke alarms in the home at the time of the fire.
