ELY, Nev. (AP) - White Pine County’s new fire chief says he wants to gauge strengths and needs of the seven fire stations, volunteer Ely firefighters and land management agencies he’s now working with around the county.

The Ely Times reports (https://bit.ly/1lfyXKR ) that Brett Waters began his new job last Monday.

Waters was hired by the White Pine County Commission based on his 30 years of fire service experience and his training in wildland and structure fires, emergency medical responses and consulting.

Waters‘ exit after nearly 17 years from Belgrade, Mont., was clouded by an official misconduct investigation of on-duty firefighters helping to build a porch on his house using department equipment.

The Times says court documents alleged the firefighters were delayed responding to a medical emergency call.
