MIAMI (AP) - Reduced adoption fees are being offered during pet adoption week in Miami-Dade County.

It’s part of the “Open Your Heart and Your Home” campaign that started on Saturday and runs through Feb. 16.

A county statement says the goal is to reduce the pet overpopulation by offering pet lovers the opportunity to “take home a furry valentine that is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go to a forever home.”

Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr., said in the statement that this adoption week is “crucial to the efforts being made to reduce the number of unwanted animals in the county and help Miami-Dade Animal Services achieve its no-kill goal.”
