AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - In a Nov. 29 story about efforts by the Ohio-based software company Reynolds & Reynolds Inc. to identify a blogger known only as Trooper, The Associated Press, citing a story published by The Austin American-Statesman, reported that Trooper had called company chairman Robert Brockman a thief.

That description was based on a 2009 blog post, in which Trooper compared Brockman to Bernie Madoff, a financier sentenced to 150 years in prison for defrauding clients. In the post, Trooper said Madoff was ruthless and “stole from everyone equally,” adding that Brockman “is exactly the same way.”

However, according to court documents prepared by Trooper’s lawyer, the blogger was referring only to Madoff’s ruthlessness and had earlier written that Brockman “is not a thief.”
