DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A northeast Iowa man has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for possession of a homemade bomb.

Federal prosecutors in Cedar Rapids say 34-year-old Bjorn Luster of Cresco pleaded guilty in September to one count of possession of a destructive device.

Court documents say law enforcement officers searched Luster’s home in January 2013 after obtaining a search warrant. Officers found the device and a container of explosive powder.

Luster admitted he made the bomb wrapped with BBs and nails to make it more destructive. He says he never intended to hurt anyone and contends he only made it to see it explode.

Luster was sentenced to 87 months in prison. He also must serve a three-year term of supervised release after he’s out of prison.
