TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Natchez Trace Parkway authorities say controlled fires are planned starting Wednesday in Lee County.

WTVA-TV in Tupelo reports (https://bit.ly/JYWcv8 ) the fires are used to reduce risk of wildfire. They will be at mileposts 266 and 260.

Drivers are asked to drive with headlights on and watch for workers along the roadway.

Temporary closings of the parkway are possible if areas become too smoky for safe driving.

Smoke warning signs will also be placed along the parkway.
