PHOENIX (AP) - A woman who allegedly tried to rob a Phoenix jewelry store is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot several times by the store owner.

Phoenix police say the owner and the suspect exchanged gunfire Tuesday afternoon at Diamond Star AZ Jewelry near 13th Street and Northern Avenue.

The name of the woman in her 20s hasn’t been released. She was shot several times by the man who owns the store after she allegedly tried to rob it.

Authorities say she fled from the store but was found a short distance away and taken to a hospital.

Police say the woman’s injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.

They say the store owner also was shot but has less severe injuries. His name isn’t immediately available.
