COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The University of South Carolina and historian Walter Edgar are launching a new series of lectures about the Civil War.

University spokeswoman Peggy Binette says the series begins Tuesday and will run each Tuesday evening through Feb. 11.

The talks are scheduled for the Capstone House on campus from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

They begin with Tracey Power, an assistant professor of history at Newberry College.

She is speaking about life in the Army of Northern Virginia from the battle known as the “Wilderness” to Appomattox.
